Hello. I'm Ashley.
I like classic movies and shows (obviously). Favourite actors at the moment are mainly Jimmy Stewart, Dick Van Dyke, Humphrey Bogart, and Fred Astaire. And my favourite actress at the moment is Audrey Hepburn.

Hi Ashley, nice to meet you.
I quite like Audrey myself. I can't get enough of her in "Charade" and I really liked her in "Breakfast at Tiffany's".

Nice to meet you, too, Sabrina "Breakfast at Tiffany's" was the first film of hers that I watched and I just thought she was fantastic. Some people say it's overrated and maybe it is a little, but it's still fantastic. I haven't seen "Charade" yet, though. It's on Netflix, so I'll be watching it soon.

"BaT" was my first Audrey Hepburn movie as well. I remember seeing it back in 2003/2004 on cable twice. After that I had to buy it on DVD. I haven't seen it since then though. I should find a chance to see it. Oh, I simply adore everything about "Charade". I saw it for the first time on Netflix as well.

I'm sure I'll love Charade. It has Cray Grant and Audrey Hepburn in it and I love them both.
But is it just me or did Cary Grant have a ridiculous tan when he was older? My family and I were watching "To Catch a Thief" and oh my god, he was so tanned it was a joke amongst my family, lol.

Hello Ashley Welcome to the group I only joined a couple of days ago. I'm not a Audrey fan but I do love Charade being a Cary fan and also Paris When It Sizzles with William Holden. Another film she made with William Holden which is good is Sabrina. Nina

My family and I were watching "To Catch a Thief" and oh my god, he was so tanned it was a joke amongst my family, lol. There are a few movies that come to mind that he seemed darker than usual. "To Catch a Thief" being one. "Kiss Them For Me" being another. Even in "Houseboat" he was kind of extra tan-ish. I don't know the reason, of course... I don't even like "To Catch a Thief" which is like probably an eye popping "wow", but I seriously don't so his tan and everything else about that movie kind of just went right over my head. I don't like "Kiss Them For Me" either, so that all goes right over my head. He won't appear that way in "Charade" though. He won't look over-tanned. Maybe it was some mid to late 50s thing he had going on. Who knows. Then again how are we going to tell if he was extremely tan earlier than that? The only time I remember him being in films that were actually filmed in technicolor had started during the mid-50s. Who knows what he looked when all of his movies were in black and white. I saw "Night and Day" (1946) where he portrayed Cole Porter--it was the technicolor version (I had no idea it would be) and he wasn't tan at all. He was actually rather pale--but I'm not entirely sure how technicolor worked/works so maybe they had to make him as pale as he was when they were adding color to the movie.

I've read that he liked to maintain a year round tan to avoid wearing make-up.

Yeah, I've seen some stuff on tumblr about Charade and his tan doesn't seem so dark. It's just normal. I guess we'll just never know why he was so dark during that time.
To Catch a Thief is ok. I liked North by Northwest more. It might be due to my family making jokes about TCaT and calling some parts cheesy that makes me like NBN more. I don't know. I just know that I don't like watching film awards and films with my family because they talk a lot, especially my sister.

What kind of jokes do they make about TCAT? I've already talked ill about the movie like three times on my facebook wall. It just keeps happening because somebody will ask me if I saw it or they'll make a mention of it to me--and then I let it all out.
I was certain I was going to like it better than NBN before I ever saw either of them, but that didn't happen. Still, I'm not entirely into NBN. I think I like the first half better than the second, and I do not like the ending very much. Now, as for Hitchcock/Grant's other work, I am madly in love with "Notorious" and "Suspicion" like nobody's business. An obsessive kind of love.
Your family wouldn't happen to be black would they? LMAO. Always talking when something's on...

Well, there was one bit where my mom said about Cary Grant, "I'm calling him Leather-face from now on." And that's just about all I remember. There was more, but it's been awhile since we watched it and I'm drawing a blank right now.
NBN kind of dragged in the second half. But it wasn't as bad as the Man Who Knew Too Much. It just dragged a little because you think, "They're going to get that fucking kid now." But no, you see a gun pointed at his head. And I haven't seen Notorious, but I thought Suspicious was all right. It wasn't really what I thought it was going to be. I thought she was going to go full-on crazy and end up in an asylum.
LMAO. No, we're about the whitest family ever. Except my dad talks like a black grandma sometimes.

Wow, you really thought that of "Suspicion"? It kind of reminded me of a "What Lies Beneath". In that the wife goes "nuts", but the end has a twist. They had to change the ending for "Suspicion" because nobody wanted to see CG as a murderer. I would have taken it anyway. I figure I need some type of "crazy" in my life as far as CG go. I'm like that with my other favorite actor. It's probably a sickness. I never saw the "Man Who Knew Too Much". I'm so behind on a lot of these movies. LMAO!!!! A black grandma, now that's something I've never heard of before. He must be a riot. Well, we have something in common then. I'm probably the whitest person in my family.

Yeah. Well, for awhile, I thought Cary Grant was actually going to kill her. But then I figured, "They wouldn't make him a murderer." I just thought one of them was going to crazy for some reason. XD One time my dad said, "Cary Grant's a killer!" I wanted to say, "Yeah, a lady killer." lol
I'm quite behind, too. Mainly because I don't want to download the films. The Man Who Knew Too Much is good. I liked it, but it's sort of long. My sister didn't like it. Jimmy Stewart's voice gets her nerves, she said.
Oh, god, it's hilarious! He sounds just like one, too. And he can sound like he's from the ghetto, as well.

That makes sense. I knew the moment he flipped out on her when she tried to get between his business plans with his friends, he was probably going to choke her. LMAO. How terrible of me to wait on hand and foot for, but I just knew he wasn't going to do that (but you never know). "WHAT THE DEVIL DO YOU KNOW ABOUT BUSINESS?!" .... so he didn't scream it, but it's funnier if you scream it (at least I think it is). I didn't think I'd be downloading movies either, but that went out the window a long time ago. I do get annoyed lately though, because it takes forever and a day to download and it makes everything else on my computer run slow. I've got about 8 of them from Cary on my harddrive, but soon they'll be deleted because I just know I'm going to buy a handful on DVD asap. JS in just that movie or in all of his movies? Oh, everybody can sound like they're from the hood. That's like pop culture now.
